Join the Bakery

​

Crumb Together Bakery is a social enterprise for adults with disabilities. The program teaches skills that will enable its participants to qualify for a job in  the bakery & food service industry.  Participants who complete all the required training  will be eligible to take the  exam to receive ServSafe Certification, the Connecticut certificate for food handling & safety.
​This program is tailored for independent adults with special needs who do not require a 1-on-1 volunteer.

Location:  Licensed, Catering kitchen located at Beth Israel Chabad 40 King Street, Norwalk
Fee:  $900  16 weeks  semester

Dates and Times: Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, 9:30am -12:00pm
Skills:
Participants of the Bakery will acquire and develop these skills:

Baking Skills

  • Measuring and pouring

  • Identification and correct use of ingredients and equipment

  • Following a recipe

  • Kneading and rolling out dough

  • Shaping  and  Braiding 

  • Pre-heating and using an oven

  • Using a scale for accurate weights

Business Skills

  • Marketing a product

  • Sales to local business and individual buyers

  • Packaging

  • Deliveries

Life Skills

  • Kitchen Safety

  • Proper food handling and storage

  • Hand washing

  • Time management

  • Scheduling

  • Hygiene

  • Cleaning up after oneself

Social Skills

  • Communicating in a job environment

  • Learning about job etiquette

  • Delegation of tasks

  • Group work
